Unique Places To Purchase Used Auto Parts

When your car breaks down and you need to turn to buying parts to repair the issue, you know that most likely, it's going to be expensive. But if you look into buying used auto parts, you can save yourself a bit of money, but you need to use caution when shopping for the right part. A used auto part that does not fit or doesn't work isn't going to do you any good, so follow these tips to be sure you get there right part for the job.

Salvage Yards

Many areas have salvage yards that offer a "pick and pull" type service. The key to finding the right parts here is to call ahead and inquire if the yard has any cars that would carry the same model of the part you're looking to purchase. Usually customers will go out into the yard, find the car that may have the part, and remove the part themselves. This way of buying used parts is beneficial because you're not only buying the part used, but you're the one pulling the part out of the car, subsequently saving on the cost of an employee of the yard having to pull the part for you.

To help you through the pick and pull process, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, know exactly what you need. If at all possible, have the old part with you in order to compare, Also, don't be afraid to ask questions. The last thing you want is to walk away with the old part.

Swap Meets

A great place to buy used auto parts is at a swap meet. This can be a bit overwhelming if you've never been, and there probably is no ability to return the part once you've purchased it, but it could still be a beneficial place to shop. When people attend swap meets, many times the prices are bartered, so you could walk out with your part and a good deal. There may also be more choices for you at a swap meet, so walk around and see what part you can find in the best condition for the price you're willing to pay.

To find a swap meet, check the local classified ads, ask around at your local auto dealership, and check online. You may have never heard of a swap meet before, but they take place more often than you think.
